The MSP for Common Paddy 2026 is ₹2,300 per quintal and Grade A Paddy is ₹2,320 per quintal. This is an increase from ₹2,175 (common) and ₹2,195 (grade A) in 2025.

Common paddy is standard quality rice with basic FAQ (Fair Average Quality) standards. Grade A paddy has higher quality specifications with better grain size, less foreign matter, and superior milling characteristics. Grade A commands ₹20/quintal premium over common paddy.

Rice procurement at MSP typically starts in October (Kharif season harvest) and continues through March in most states. The exact timing varies by region based on harvest schedules.

The major rice procurement states are: Punjab, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. These states account for majority of MSP procurement operations.

Individual farmers cannot sell directly to FCI. You must sell through registered procurement centers (mandis) operated by state agricultural marketing boards or designated agencies. Payment is made directly to your bank account.

Maximum acceptable moisture content is 17% for paddy. Higher moisture content may result in price deductions or rejection. Ensure proper drying before bringing to procurement centers.
